Comment on 'Ten Times' by Phil

I have fought with cable problems for many years. Cables and connection points are the weakest link in every electronic system. The higher the frequency, the more effect there is. Use good stuff, don't kink it, don't yank it, and keep the connections clean.

Comment on 'Xen + AoE + drbd = New Redundant Hotness' by Mike

Most certainly. The primary 'end' of each one of my drbd setups both home and at work consists of either a RAID5 or RAID6 array. The secondary 'end' consists of a single disk. Using RAID at both ends could increase reliability and performance if the right RAID levels were used along with high-performance networking equipment.

I had the same problem once. The VLAN was choked by the firewall (old XL 024) that was interfaced with the wrong modem protocol (left; not right...STUPID!). The broadcast was just not coming through - I was getting nothing. Then I remembered to plug it in and turn on the computer. It's been working fine ever since!

"By having my cable modem plugged directly into the switch, it was receiving the switch's broadcast messages before my firewall instance had a chance to make itself heard. Because of this, my firewall's attempts to connect to the internet fell on deaf electronic ears."<br /><br />You're like the Dr. Phil of technology, fixing broken relationships.

It's the trade-off you have to accept when writing long songs though. With any joe-schmoe pop band, they probably could have played at least ten songs in that time. Oh well. I'll take quality over quantity for sure.

Yah, they're also nowhere to be found on eBay. Buying them new is too expensive. Seeing as how HP was offering these cards with medium to high-end servers, I would expect a stable product. Maybe I do just have a bum card. It hasn't KP'ed since it finished rebuilding the array, so maybe the firmware update did help.

Sounds similar to how I organized the code on my site, I made a python module to handle SQL queries.

I had the same problem - but was able to successfully instanate the groups by isolating the classes AND the rows. It sounds simple and it is... IF you redefine the database in the SQL.<br /><br />you can thank me later.

Its not an exact match, but think of a database. You can define a class around each table. Each instantiation of the class (the object) is analogous to a row, and the data stored within the object belongs to that object only. Classes are obviously not limited to that, but they match up very well with the concepts present in a database.

OOP has always given me troubles. I vaguely understand the concept, but it just doesn't want to click. Probably because I have never HAD to use it.
