Musical Interests
My musical interests are broad, and yet not broad at the same time.
I can find value in a lot of different forms of music, but I tend to listen to metal more than anything.
I don't really have a 'favorite' band anymore.
My tastes fluctuate quite regularly, so it's hard for me to really nail it down.
That's why I made a neat application to keep track of what I listen to.
I have some info on each band listed, which should help explain why I like them... or not.
Check out the listing below...
My top 10 bands (statistically) of the past 28 days:
Bloodbath - cool factor of 3.03

Meshuggah - cool factor of 1.98

Opeth - cool factor of 1.71
Opeth is a study of opposites. One minute they're laying down thunderous riffs in the truest of metal form with growling vocals that would frighten a rabid pit-bull, and the next their sound is quiet and melodic, with soft and soothing vocals that wouldn't be out of place on an easy listening station. If you heard the two sounds seperately, you'd never think they were being produced by the same band. But when you do hear one style flow effortlessly into the other, you begin to realize how incredibly talented this Swedish quintet is, and you can only want more.
Gojira - cool factor of 1.67

Amorphis - cool factor of 1.22

Arch Enemy - cool factor of 1.18

Exodus - cool factor of 1.09

Dream Theater - cool factor of 1.08
It's really not fair how talented Dream Theater is. Every guy in the band is talented beyond words, and when you put them together, it's like Voltron or Captain Planet or something. They become something huge, and they could probably play any kind of music on the planet and sound better than anyone else doing it. The only knock against them that I have is that they could be considered guilty of playing technically complex songs just because they can, without putting as much feeling into them as they could. Beyond that, it's impossible for me to find fault... they're just too good.
Clutch - cool factor of 1.05
Clutch is definitely "out there." They use a lot of syncopated rhythms and some crazy vocals to do their thing, and it makes for some interesting listening.
Dark Tranquillity - cool factor of 1.05

In Flames - cool factor of 1.05

I seem to like these songs:
"At the Behest of Their Death" by Bloodbath, "Mock the Cross" by Bloodbath, "Devouring the Feeble" by Bloodbath, "Earthrot" by Bloodbath, "Process of Disillumination" by Bloodbath, "Treasonous" by Bloodbath, "Wretched Human Mirror" by Bloodbath, "A Sight To Behold" by Gojira, "Drink From the Cup of Heresy" by Bloodbath, "Iesous" by Bloodbath
Cool factor = n ^ pct, where n = total plays that artist had for the time period and pct = the percent of total plays that artist had for the time period. Anything above 2.0 is really 'cool'. Yes, I make up weird statistics, and yes, I am a dork. Top 5 results generated at November 21, 2008, 7:00 am
