I really don't like this time of year... the light becomes scarce, cold encroaches, and many things die... including my optimism.

Yes, I'm still alive...

Wednesday, November 10 2004, 9:23 PM

Rumors of my demise are greatly overstated. I've had a couple people comment on the fact that it's been nearly two weeks since I posted something, and well, they're right. I mentioned to one of said people that there hasn't really been much going on worth discussing, but later I recanted and said that there are things going on, but that I just don't really feel like discussing anything right now. I'm not sure whether it's because winter's kicking in again and I freakin' hate the winter, or the fact that we're doomed to suffer another four years with an idiot president at the helm of our country, or the fact that it's been busy at work lately, leading most of us to get pulled in many different directions constantly, making it damn near impossible to get stuff done every day, or perhaps it's because I still sit here at home at a computer for countless hours after sitting on a computer for countless hours at work, basically taking breaks only to play the same old crap on the guitar. Whatever it is, I just don't really feel like posting much these days.

I think I just need a spark so that the flames of something new can be lit. My life is in such a set routine, and it hardly changes. Wake up, go to work, proceed with various customer annoyances, come home. Sit at computer, play guitar, be lonely. Go to bed, Repeat. Something needs to change.

I suppose I should talk about the Slayer show I saw the other night with Matt, since it was a pretty sweet show. It was down at Harpos in Detroit, and Harpos was hopping. I couldn't believe how many people were there. Crazy insane skinhead psycho types were all abound. The first opening band, Mastodon, was pretty sweet, and I would definitely buy a CD of theirs in the future if I were to find one. The second band, Killswitch Engage, was ok, but I wasn't as impressed with them as I was Mastodon. Just not really my type I guess. Slayer was freakin awesome. Never before have I seen a crowd so active at a metal show. The mosh pits were so active that they would consume entire halves of the floor, which is good if you're in it, not as good if you're trying to stay out of it. Keeping a stable footing proved difficult at times. Regardless, they rocked the house, and it was worth the drive. The ticket was like $35 after all the bullshit TicketMaster convenience charges though, which is total crap. No show at Harpos should be over $20, ever.

Damnit, I just looked out the front window and SNOW FLAKES WERE FALLING. IT'S ALMOST FREAKING MAY! I hate Michigan weather. It was 75 degrees out the other day.

Oh yah... Joe gave me his cold too. Freakin' grand.

I fell on warm days

Friday, February 20 2004, 12:07 AM

Hmmm... updates are coming in few and farther between these days... perhaps that's because there really isn't too much going on these days that merits talking about. The past few days at work have been much calmer than the past few weeks have been in general, which is kind of strange since billing ran on Sunday. Normally the first few days at the beginning of a billing cycle are pretty hectic with customers calling in about the various billing issues. I won't complain. It also seems like a lot of the customers we've been signing up have got the initial support issues like email setup out of the way and are going on with their business as usual, which we can definitely appreciate. I found out the other day that I'm not going to have to work midnights next week, which is sweet. The two week idea caught on with some of the other guys as well, and with the way the scheduling worked out, I don't have to work midnights until the end of april! How awesome is that?

Today was quite plesant in my world... work was slow, and we finally had temperatures above freezing!! Yup, today Jack and I renewed the warm-day habit we created last year around this time of throwing snowballs at stuff while the snow is melting and perfect for packing. I've got that "damnit you threw like 30 snowballs after not throwing anything for months" twinge in my shoulder, but I don't care. Even though it'll probably get cold again after a few days, I don't care - I saw grass for the first time in a long time today. Days like this remind me that spring and summer aren't too far off.

There's snow on the ground...

Tuesday, November 25 2003, 4:24 AM

Yah, as much as I would have liked to sleep through it and pretend it didn't happen - it snowed today. Normally the first snow of the year doesn't really stick, but it did today. I used to like the winter, but then I got older. I used to be able to go outside and play in the snow, make snowforts, pelt annoying neighbor kids with snowballs, sled down hills, go ice skating.... the list goes on. Now winter is just an extended period of freakin cold weather where I have to bundle up all the time, freezing my butt off while my car warms up and accumulates a covering of salt from driving down the road. Or, in the case of the Camaro, I could just be driving and hit black ice, careen off the road at 60MPH and hit a tree. No thanks. Give me ice-free roads, a bright sun, warm air. Give me shorts and a T-shirt. Give me summer. I have no use for winter anymore.

I'm on the night shift again this week and so far it's been pretty uneventful. I set up a server yesterday for Zac... that's about the only non-boring thing that's happened. I updated my website a bit tonight. I could be working one of a couple of projects I'm involved with here at work, but my attention span is quite short from being so damn tired. There's a monster glass of Mountan Dew within an arms reach, and that's just about all that's keeping me awake right now.

One cool thing did happen today though... After literally years of unwavering patience (read: lack of money), I finally ordered myself a laptop today. I'm pumped. I can't wait for it to get here. Eventually I'll install Gentoo on it and join the Elite Liquid Web Gentoo Linux Laptop Club (ELWGLLC), but I'll probably just put Windows on it at the beginning until the novelty of having a laptop wears off. Then I'll install Gentoo and dual boot. It needs to get here soon, because I'm crazy patient like that.

Waiting for the warmth

Thursday, March 13 2003, 10:05 PM

All I have to say today is that I hate snow. I want all snow within a 300 mile radius of me to melt, like right now. Snow made me wreck my car a month ago, snow made me get home really late last night, and snow made my drive to work take 2 hours. Snow needs to go. Snow needs to take it's millions-of-unique-water-crystal ass and get the hell out. Yah.
